This year we made 50 invitations. Im working full time and in the case of the final 2 weeks before mailing day it was way more than full time so we just didn't have the spoons to make more. We also really struggled with who to send them to. I am STILL second guessing myself about it. In the end some people just got one because we were too tired to make another decision. So to get to the point, if you didn't get one it does NOT mean that we don't love you. It does NOT mean that you aren't invited. If you can see this you are invited and very very welcome. We want you to come, and we want you to bring your friends. You don't have to ask if they can come. Of course they can. Our party is really a setting for YOUR party. We want your creepy friends to meet our creepy friends. https://www.facebook.com/events/2268327876768632/

Halloween 2019

Artwork by Vilk Stolem
In the last few years Facebook has become our method of communicating for the CatHouse Halloween party.  It is the fastest and most thorough way of keeping people informed...but we miss the old ways.  This blog also retains past posts in a far more manageable format.  Feel free to scroll back through the years as there is some valuable information there.  We will continue to use Facebook for the invitations, but we will be posting more content here.  We are updating the links, adding more pictures, and providing more notes on what you can expect this year.

Speaking of which, over the years one of our regrets is our continuing lack of post party pictures.  This year we will make a dedicated area for picture taking.  We want to celebrate your costumes and see your pretty faces.  Of course we also love the pictures you take and share with us so we encourage you to continue taking them.  We will never post pictures without your permission.

"We ARE the weirdos, Mister."

We are aware that for some of our 1st timers, going to a strange place, full of weirdos(and in the dark no less) can be intimidating. That is the main reason we tell you to bring whom ever you like. Think of the CatHouse Party as a platform for your own party. We do the decorating. You bring your own weirdos.

Places to Stay

Our hunt for Bed &Breakfasts with space on Halloween was completely unfruitful.  All the more depressing, because really all Petersburg has going for it are it’s historic tourist attractions and beautiful houses.  This leaves hotels.  As a rule we only recommend hotels on the Colonial Heights side of the bridge.  Unless you would like to buy some drugs or rent a dodgy hooker, Colonial Heights is a more comfortable choice.  Here are two lovely choices less than 10 minutes from our house.  As always, we also have plenty of crash space, but bring your own bedding.

Good Evening My Beloveds!

Preparations have begun and the 13th Annual Cathouse Halloween party is at hand.   As in previous years this is a party where everyone is welcome.  If you are reading this you are invited.  Bring your friends. We love new people.  Our gathering is a costume party but if you don’t want to wear one, feel free to come as you are.  Children are always welcome.  This year our party falls on Halloween night so we are looking forward to some of our friends bringing their kids to trick or treat in our neighborhood.  We are generous with the candy in Old Towne Petersburg, so much so people drive their kids over to enjoy our largesse.
Crash space is always available at our house, but we also have some lovely Bed & Breakfasts on our block and around the neighborhood.  We will start listing them in our next entry.

PARTY FOOD

I think I've covered all the bases for the 12th Annual CatHouse Halloween Party. Some good stuff for those of us who like meat and cheese and veggies and enough sugar to satisfy everyone's sweet tooth. If you have something you would like to bring food or drink wise please feel free to bring it and share....even if it still has teeth.  (Quoted from Niely)

HALLOWEEN 2014!

Sorry this is up so late but we've been busy finishing up house projects.  FINALLY we can concentrate on the 12th Annual Cathouse Halloween Party!!!  Some notes:  Children are welcome.  Costumes are encouraged but not required.  If you are coming from Crown, feel free to wear garb.  Contact me for directions or questions.  Bring food and/or drink if you like.  We will also be supplying food and drinks.  If you want to bring something but don't know what, ask and I'll come up with a suggestion or 2, but wildly creative or a bag of chips, if you'll enjoy it, someone else will.  Bring friends along if you like.  The more the merrier.  We have crash space (mostly floor) but bedding is limited so if you crash here, bring some bedding.  We'll have some air mattresses but first come first served.  A few of the invitations went out without the time on them.  The general start time is 8pm.

The Party APPROACHES!

The thought of missing the Cathouse Halloween party keeping you up at night? We are here to help!  This year’s party will be held on Oct 26th beginning at 8pm and going until we all fall down. Children are very welcome.  We always have food and beer but we love it when you bring stuff too, so feel free.  Please email vivianvaz@lairhaven.com for R.S.V.P. and directions to scenic Old Towne Petersburg!  Costumes are fun, but also not required.  Bring yourselves!  Bring friends!  Bring neighbors you don’t hate!  We have crash space available...mostly on the floor so bring bedding.

HE'S ALIVE!!!

Whew! What a year!

The 11th annual Cathouse Halloween Party was touch and go for a while there. I still feel like we are pulling things together at the last minute. This year’s theme is close to our hearts. We are calling it “Matt Howard, Back from the Dead!” Some of you may know that our best friend Matt went for routine surgery in March and then decided to have a couple of massive brain hemorrhages. After weeks of terror and a bit of funeral planning he graciously decided to live, and we were indescribably grateful. We are really looking forward to spending October getting frightened by imaginary terrors instead of reality. And we are really, really looking forward to spending it with Matt and his wife Keri, and all of you!

Note for the DAY

Some stuff to know concerning parking in our neighborhood; We live in a beautiful historic neighborhood. Because the streets are old they aren’t always a standard size. So on most roads you can only park on one side of the street. Parking in front of our house is possible (across the street) but increasingly hard to find after about 9 pm. There are good spots on Cross street and Lafayette street, and these are right around the corner. Hinton St. is also a good spot. Last year Audrey got a ticket for parking within 20 feet of the corner. We are still baffled by the purpose of that particular ordinance, but just to be on the safe side don’t park to close to any corner, especially if you think you'll be staying the night.

Halloween 2011

YAY! It's our favorite time of the year! Things to know:

-Bring whomever you like. Your guests are our guests.
-Kids are welcome. While we are no longer toddler-proof, we still do our best to make our party fun for kids as well as adults.
-Bring your favorite snacks and drinks...or not.
-Costumes are great, but not required.
-We have a SteamPunk theme this year. Again participation is not required. This is our 1st year trying a theme and we don't want it to get in the way of your fun or your creativity. Wear what you want.
-We live in an historic neighborhood and parking can sometimes be a mystery. In the next couple of weeks we will publish a map of good spots to find parking.
-A number of our guests bring bedding and spend the night. You are welcome to sleep over as well. If slumber parties aren't your thing there are many cheap hotels in the area. We also have some nice Bed &Breakfasts on our block too. More expensive but really cool.

Those are the basics. If we think of anything else we will publish it here.

Check back often! See you soon!
